The story

Big, smoky bottlebrush plumes.

Fat, fuzzy plumes in deep smoky purple start in midsummer, earlier than most fountain grasses, and keep coming into fall. The arching foliage turns gold as the weather cools.

Light

Full sun for the most plumes. Tolerates a little afternoon shade.

Water

Regular water the first season. Established clumps get by on rainfall except in long droughts.

Planting

Plant in spring once the soil warms, crown at soil level. It is a warm-season grass and roots in best with heat.

Earlier, darker, bigger plumes than standard fountain grass, from a plant that takes heat and poor soil.
