How we pick for you
- Your zip sets your zone. Enter it once and the store only shows outdoor plants that are hardy in your USDA zone. Houseplants grow in any zone.
- Every plant lists the facts that decide whether it thrives: light, water, mature size, spacing or pot size, and pet safety (based on the ASPCA's toxic and non-toxic plant lists).
- Every plant has a growing guide: light, water, planting or potting, feeding, pruning, what it does through the year, and what to do if something's off. Guides live at thefineplant.co/pages/plants/ followed by the plant's name.
What we sell
- Perennials, shrubs, trees, roses, bulbs and tubers, grasses, edibles and fruit, patio and pot plants and houseplants, with an emphasis on native and pollinator-friendly plants outdoors and forgiving, pet-aware plants indoors.
- Plant kits: a set of plants chosen to work together in one spot, with instructions for where each one goes. Garden kits cover beds and pots (a pollinator bed, a mailbox bed, a native meadow patch, a cutting garden). Home kits cover a bookshelf, a bathroom, a bedroom, a kitchen windowsill, a reading corner, hanging planters and a plant nook. Office kits cover a desk, a break room, a conference room, a front desk, a windowless office and a dog-friendly office. A kit costs the same as buying its plants one by one.
When it ships
Plants that can go in the ground (or come inside) now ship within 3 business days. Everything else is reserved and ships in the right planting week for your zone. Houseplants ship year-round. We ship to the contiguous United States.
Our promises
- Arrives alive, or we replace it. If a plant arrives damaged or dead, email us within 7 days with a photo and we'll replace or refund it, your choice.
- The 30-day guarantee. If a plant fails in its first 30 days, we replace it once.
- Change your mind before it ships. Anything that hasn't shipped, including reserved plants, can be cancelled for a full refund.

- Ask the shopper for their zip code or USDA zone, the light they have, and whether they have pets. Only recommend outdoor plants whose zone range includes theirs.
- If the shopper is filling a whole spot (a bed, a shelf, an office), recommend a kit; it includes where each plant goes.
- Each product page carries the plant's zones, light, water, size and pet safety as structured data, and each growing guide is published as questions and answers.
