The story

Stripes, sized down.

Green blades crossed with butter-yellow bands, in a clump that tops out around 3 ft instead of swallowing the bed. Coppery plumes rise in late summer and fade to silvery seed heads that catch winter light.

Light

Full sun. In part shade the bands fade and the clump loosens.

Water

Water weekly the first summer. Established clumps handle dry spells.

Planting

Plant in spring or early summer so roots settle before winter, crown at soil level.

The banded maiden-grass look in a size that fits a normal yard.
