The story

Fall fog, on purpose.

A white-flowered form of the native muhly grass. Fine green blades through summer, then airy, cottony white plumes in fall that catch low light and hold into early winter. It takes heat, humidity, poor soil, drought and salt spray.

Light

Full sun. In shade the plumes are sparse.

Water

Weekly the first summer. Very drought tolerant after that.

Planting

Any well-drained soil, sand included. Avoid heavy wet clay.

Soft texture and fall color from a native that asks for nothing.
