The story

A haze of blue all summer.

Silver stems and fine gray leaves carry a cloud of lavender-blue flowers from midsummer into fall. It smells like sage when you brush it, deer leave it alone, and dry heat is its favorite weather.

Light

Full sun. In shade it flops.

Water

Water weekly the first summer. After that, rarely; it would rather be dry.

Planting

Plant in spring or early fall in lean, well-drained soil. Skip the compost.

Months of color from a plant that wants less water than the lawn.
