The story

Lavender that looks good undressed.

Gray-green leaves edged in cream give this lavender a silvery glow even before it flowers. Then come blue-violet spikes with the classic scent, on a compact plant that fits a pot or the edge of a sunny path.

Light

Full sun, at least 6–8 hours.

Water

Water weekly the first summer, then only in drought. Never let it sit wet.

Planting

Plant in spring in gritty, well-drained soil, a little high. Add gravel to clay or use a raised bed.

Variegated foliage means it earns its spot before and after bloom.
