The story

Red where you least expect it.

Leaves come up bright red in spring and deepen to burgundy-brown as the season goes on, with sprays of small white flowers in late spring. It brings warm color to shade, where most plants only do green.

Light

Part shade is ideal; a little morning sun deepens the red. Hot afternoon sun scorches it.

Water

Keep evenly moist but never soggy.

Planting

Plant in spring or fall with the crown right at soil level, in soil that drains.

Real color in shade, in the ground or in a pot.
