The story

The good-natured palm.

Clumping canes with arching, feathery fronds, so it fills out as a full green fountain rather than a single trunk. It handles indoor light better than most palms. Non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Light

Bright, indirect light. A few feet from a south or west window. Direct afternoon sun yellows the fronds.

Water

Water when the top inch is dry. Never let the pot sit in water.

Pot and soil

A well-draining palm or peat-based potting mix. Repot every two to three years; it likes being a bit snug.

A big, soft green presence for a bright room, safe around pets.
