Rosy Soil.
Chad Massura grew up gardening with his grandmother. Years later he went looking at what actually goes into a bag of potting soil, and didn't like the answer. Most of it is peat moss, dug out of bogs that took thousands of years to form and won't grow back in our lifetime.
So he started Rosy Soil to build potting mix without it. The replacement is biochar: plant material turned into a porous charcoal that holds water and nutrients near the roots and keeps the mix from packing down. Rosy blends it with compost, worm castings and mycorrhizae, and tunes a different mix for each kind of plant.
They take the testing seriously. Rosy runs its own soil lab, has put its mixes through thousands of plant trials, and buys its biochar from domestic suppliers so every bag performs the same. Rosy launched in 2022 and is now sold by hundreds of independent plant shops.
That's why it's the only soil we pair with our houseplants. Every plant in the shop is matched to the Rosy mix that suits it, so you can repot with the right soil the first time.
