The story

Big yellow daisies, held high.

A selection of a native coneflower from the south-central prairies, with long yellow petals that sweep down from a dark brown cone. The stems run 3 to 4 feet and stand up on their own. Goldfinches work the seed heads after the petals drop.

Light

Full sun, six hours or more.

Water

Water weekly the first summer. Established plants handle drought.

Planting

Plant in spring or fall in average to poor, well-drained soil. Skip the compost.

Late-summer yellow at a height most coneflowers can't reach.
