The story

A carpet of hot pink.

Tight mats of blue-gray foliage disappear under vivid fuchsia flowers in late spring. Out of bloom, the steely leaves still earn their place at the front of the bed.

Light

Full sun. In shade it gets sparse and stops blooming.

Water

Water to establish, then only in dry spells. Overwatering rots it.

Planting

Plant in spring or early fall, crown slightly high. Add grit to clay or plant on a slope or wall edge.

Electric color and good-looking foliage at the very front edge.
