The story

The lemon at the store.

If you picture a lemon, it's a Eureka: bright yellow, sour and full of juice. It flowers and fruits off and on most of the year, so there's usually something ripe. It's self-fertile and nearly thornless.

Light

Full sun outdoors. Indoors, a south-facing window or a grow light.

Water

Water when the top 2 in. of soil are dry. Never let it sit in water.

Planting

Pot in a fast-draining citrus mix, or plant in the ground in zones 9–11 in a sunny, sheltered spot.

Real lemons, more or less year-round, from one pot.
