The story

The orange in the carton.

Valencia is the late-season orange the juice business runs on. Fruit ripens in spring and summer, long after other oranges are done, and holds on the tree for months. It's sweet, tangy, nearly seedless and very juicy.

Light

Full sun, eight hours or more.

Water

Deeply once or twice a week the first year, then when the top few inches dry. Never let it sit wet.

Planting

Sandy, well-drained soil with the graft union well above grade. Keep mulch off the trunk.
