The story

The first flower of the year.

Nodding white bells on 6-inch stems, open in late winter while the ground is still cold. Left alone, they spread into bigger colonies every year.

Light

Sun in winter, part shade in summer; under deciduous trees is perfect.

Water

Moist in spring, dry is fine in summer.

Planting

Plant as soon as they arrive in fall, 3 in. deep. They do not like to dry out out of the ground.

Proof in February that the garden is coming back.
