The story

Also called naked lady.

Bare stems shoot up in late summer with clusters of fragrant pink trumpets, no leaves in sight. The strappy foliage arrives afterward and stays through winter. This is the garden amaryllis, not the holiday one in a box.

Light

Full sun to light afternoon shade. A warm wall helps in cooler areas.

Water

Water while leaves are growing in fall and winter. Keep it dry in summer dormancy.

Planting

Plant in late summer or fall with the top of the bulb at the soil surface. Sharp drainage.

Scented flowers in late summer, when the garden is tired.
