Light

Medium, indirect light is best. Tolerates low light; grows slower there.

Water

Water when the top two inches are dry. Overwatering kills more of these than anything else.

Pot and soil

Keep it in its pot for the first year. Repot every two to three years into well-draining mix.

Feeding

Diluted liquid fertilizer monthly in spring and summer. None in winter.

Grooming

Pull off yellowed lower leaves. Cut a leggy cane at any height; it will sprout below the cut.

Through the year

Grows slowly in spring and summer. Rests in winter: water less and keep it away from cold drafts.

If something's off

Brown tips come from fluoride, salts or dry air. Yellow, soft leaves mean too much water. Toxic to pets.

Plays well with

Plant it with friends.

Why we stock it: A floor plant at real height that survives a dark corner and an irregular watering schedule.
