The story

Blue, dense and slow.

Short, sharp needles in a steel blue that holds all year. It grows into a low, irregular mound and takes its time getting there. Put it next to anything purple or chartreuse and both look better.

Light

Full sun. In shade it thins and loses the blue.

Water

Water weekly the first season. After that, only in drought.

Planting

Spring or fall, crown level with or slightly above the soil. Sandy or gravelly soil is ideal; amend heavy clay or plant on a slope.

A small evergreen that keeps its color when everything else in the bed has gone brown.
