The story

Built for heat.

Not a willow at all. It is a southwestern native with willow-like leaves and fragrant, ruffled flowers in pink and wine, all summer, that hummingbirds work constantly. This one grows taller than most and sets few seed pods.

Light

Full sun. Reflected heat is fine.

Water

Weekly the first summer, then a deep soak every few weeks in summer. Never soggy.

Planting

Spring or early fall. Sandy, rocky or gravelly soil is ideal; avoid wet clay.

Months of flowers in heat that flattens other trees.
