The story

Tall and very narrow.

A columnar form of the native eastern arborvitae. It grows fast and up rather than out, staying only 3–5 ft wide, so a row makes a screen without eating the yard. Soft, dense green foliage all year.

Light

Full sun is best. Part shade works but thins the foliage.

Water

Deep watering weekly for two summers. Even moisture after that; it does not like drought.

Planting

Spring or fall. Set the root ball level with the soil and mulch, keeping mulch off the trunk.

Privacy along a property line where there isn't room for a wide hedge.
