Hoya with smooth succulent leaves variegated yellow, green and pink in a grey ceramic pot

Light

Bright, indirect light. More light brings out the yellow and pink; low light turns it plain green.

Water

Let the soil dry out between waterings. The succulent leaves carry it through a missed week.

Pot and soil

A chunky, fast-draining mix with bark and perlite. Bigger pots don't help; it likes being snug.

Pot it inRosy Cactus & Succulent Soil · 4 qtDrains fast, so roots never sit wet. 4 qt repots 2–3 plants. Peat-free, by Rosy Soil

Feeding

Diluted liquid fertilizer monthly in spring and summer.

Grooming

Trim only to tidy. Never cut the peduncles, the flower spurs, because it reblooms from them.

Through the year

Spring and summer: growing and blooming season, so feed and give it all the bright light you have. Fall and winter: water even less and skip the fertilizer.

If something's off

Shriveled leaves mean it's thirsty; soft, yellow ones mean too much water. All-green new growth wants more light. Non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Plays well with

Plant it with friends.
