Light

Medium, indirect light. No direct sun.

Water

Keep the soil lightly moist; water around the rhizomes, not on them. It handles drier air than most ferns.

Pot and soil

A light, airy mix with bark and perlite. Never bury the furry rhizomes; they belong on the surface.

Pot it inRosy Orchid Mix · 4 qtBark and pumice, so roots dry out between drinks. 4 qt repots 2–3 plants. Peat-free, by Rosy Soil

Feeding

Half-strength liquid fertilizer monthly in spring and summer.

Grooming

Cut old or browned fronds at the base. Leave the rhizomes alone.

Through the year

Spring and summer: feed lightly and keep it moist. Fall and winter: water a little less and keep it away from heat vents.

If something's off

Rotting rhizomes mean they were buried or kept wet. Crispy fronds mean dry soil. Non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Plays well with

Plant it with friends.
