Inch plant with small pinkish-purple leaves striped green, trailing from a white ceramic pot

Light

Bright, indirect light for the strongest pink. It gets leggy and fades in low light.

Water

Water when the top inch is dry. Don't let it sit wet; the stems rot at the soil line.

Pot and soil

Any standard potting mix with drainage.

Pot it inRosy Houseplant Soil · 4 qtThe everyday peat-free mix. 4 qt repots 2–3 plants. Peat-free, by Rosy Soil

Feeding

Liquid fertilizer monthly in spring and summer.

Grooming

Pinch the tips often to keep it full. Root the cuttings in water and tuck them back into the pot.

Through the year

Spring and summer: it grows fast, so pinch and feed. Fall and winter: water less, stop feeding and give it your brightest window.

If something's off

Long, bare stems mean too little light. Older tradescantia gets thin at the center; restart it from cuttings. Sap can irritate pets and skin.

Plays well with

Plant it with friends.
