Weeping fig tree with small glossy green leaves and a braided trunk

Light

Bright, indirect light within a few feet of a window. A little morning sun is fine.

Water

Water when the top inch is dry and let it drain completely. Never leave it sitting in water.

Pot and soil

Well-draining potting mix with bark or perlite. Repot in spring when roots circle the pot.

Pot it inRosy Houseplant Soil · 4 qtThe everyday peat-free mix. 4 qt repots 2–3 plants. Peat-free, by Rosy Soil

Feeding

Liquid fertilizer monthly in spring and summer.

Grooming

Trim stray shoots in spring to keep the head tidy. Rub off any sprouts from the trunk. The sap is milky and irritating; wear gloves.

Through the year

Spring and summer: feed and turn it every few weeks. Fall and winter: water less, stop feeding, keep it off cold glass.

If something's off

It drops leaves when moved, chilled or left in a draft. Stay calm; it regrows once settled. Leaves and sap are toxic to pets.

Plays well with

Plant it with friends.
