The story

Rosettes that make more rosettes.

Tight succulent rosettes in a mix of greens, reds, purples and bronze, chosen for variety rather than matching. Each mother rosette sends out small offsets around her, hence the name. A mature rosette eventually flowers on a tall stalk and dies, and the chicks carry on.

Light

Full sun for the best color. Part shade works, but the reds and purples fade toward green.

Water

Water lightly after planting, then only in long droughts. Never let them sit wet.

Planting

Plant in spring or fall in sandy or gravelly soil, or in a pot with drainage holes and cactus mix. Set the rosette at the surface, not buried.

Succulents that survive real winters and ask almost nothing of you.
