The story

Fragrance by the doorstep.

Large 15–16 cm hyacinth bulbs in mixed colors. Bigger bulbs mean fuller, denser spikes. One clump perfumes a walkway, and a few cut stems scent a room.

Full sun to part shade.

Water

Water after planting. In spring, water only if it's dry.

Planting

Plant in fall, six weeks or so before the ground freezes, pointed end up. 6 in. deep. Wear gloves; the bulbs can itch.

The strongest scent in the spring garden, at nose-adjacent height.
