Light

Bright, indirect light, within a few feet of a window. A little morning sun is fine.

Water

Water when the top inch is dry, then let it drain completely. Never let it sit in a saucer of water.

Pot and soil

A well-draining potting mix with some bark or perlite. Repot in spring when roots circle the pot.

Feeding

Liquid fertilizer monthly in spring and summer.

Grooming

Trim stray branches in spring to keep the shape. The cut stems bleed a milky sap, so wear gloves.

Through the year

Spring and summer: feed, turn it every few weeks and repot if roots crowd the pot. Fall and winter: water less, stop feeding, and keep it off cold glass and away from heat vents.

If something's off

Weeping figs drop leaves when moved, chilled or left in a draft; this one drops fewer, but it still prefers to stay put. Leaves and sap are toxic to pets.

Plays well with

Plant it with friends.
