Mound of silvery foliage with large purple lavender flower spikes

Light

Full sun, 8 hours if you can.

Water

Water to establish, then only in long droughts. Overwatering kills it.

Planting and soil

Plant in spring, slightly high, in gritty, sandy or rocky soil. Gravel mulch is ideal.

Feeding

None.

Pruning

Trim spent flower stems after bloom. In spring once new growth shows, cut back by a third, never into bare old wood.

Through the year

Silver foliage most of the year. Blooms June into August.

If something's off

Wet soil and humidity around the crown cause root rot. Lavender is toxic to dogs and cats.

Plays well with

Plant it with friends.
