Persian Buttercup

Light

Full sun.

Water

Water once at planting, then sparingly until shoots appear; corms rot in wet soil. Regular water once growing.

Planting and soil

Soak 3–4 hours. Plant claws down, 2 in. deep. Fall in zones 8–10; early spring in colder zones, or start indoors in pots.

Feeding

Bulb or balanced fertilizer when shoots appear.

Pruning

Cut flowers often. Remove spent blooms.

Through the year

Fall planting: blooms in early spring in mild zones. Spring planting: blooms early summer. Let foliage die back; lift and store corms dry in cold zones.

If something's off

Rot from wet soil is the main problem. Aphids on buds: hose off. Toxic to pets.

Rose-like flowers in mixed colors.

Tightly layered flowers on 15-inch stems, in a mix of warm and cool colors. They last well on the plant and better in a vase, and cutting them brings more. Perennial in mild zones, grown as an annual elsewhere.

Why we stock it: The best cut flower you can grow from a pack of corms.
